the whirly pinwheel~ being quilted!

i finally got the back done, and am now in the process of quilting it. i only added a strip of the whirly pinwheels to the backside, but for some reason that took longer than actually piecing the front. with my other fun projects going on, this one was put on the back burner for awhile. but now i'm so excited to have it almost done!!

i just love this process of quilting. seeing it evolve when free motion quilting it is amazing to me. there is such a transformation to the quilt!!

when i free motion quilt, i use an extention table, and my ironing board. this helps so the quilt isn't hanging and pulling as i'm trying to quilt it. it seems to be quite helpful for me. :)

hope everyone has a lovely day!!

  2. such cute colors you picked for the quilt, they all go so well together.
I love quilts, but I have no patience nor the knowledge to make one, so I just admire other people's work.
By the way - are you going to the sewing expo in Puyallup?
Hat is almost finished, I'll be able to send it to you tomorrow.
    :o)

  3. Love it, can't wait to see it all finished! Thanks for the idea about the ironing board. I've used my extension table but sometimes I need more room. Next time, I'll try the ironing board.

  5. I love it!!! I am trying to work up the nerve to try free-motion quilting. Every time I pull out a practice sandwich, my stiches are all different lengths and the stipples are too pointy. My hands want to do a loop-de-loop instead. How in the world will I ever try it on a nice quilt top? I love your colors on the white background. I can't wait to see the finished product!

  7. oh this is great. i LOVE the colors. and any sort of variation on a pinwheel is my favorite. what a fun quilt! random question: what fabric did you use for the white background. i've used kona solids lately but i want to try something else next time. what do you like to use?

  20. Ooooooh, the quilting you've shown here so far looks really really nice :-). I've always been petrified of machine quilting [the lack of quilting foot probably has something to do with that, I need to change that], but then again I was petrified of swaps and that turned out well :-), so maybe this will help encourage me! Can't wait to see what the final quilt looks like! Do post progress shots!
